Purchasing a French Style Solid Wood Door can be a daunting task.  It can cost you thousands and the options and add-ons can seem limitless.

This article is focused on wood doors and what kind of wood doors are best in my opinion. Ask yourself the following questions before you start to shop for a new door in the French style.

Do I want a solid wood door?  Solid wood offers unique beauty and typically you will find this option to be the most expensive. Consider your budget and consider your tastes.  The most expensive wood choice is going to be mahogany or similar hard wood. The reason is the tightness of the grain and the durability in the elements.

The most inexpensive wood doors are pine or a veneered doors; you will typically see these doors on homes in the 100,000 to 180,000 dollar range.  These door options offer inexpensive, short term solutions to your door need.  Doors made from these materials are more subject to warping, to cracking and can problems with the door glass not setting correctly in the pane.

Do you homework, get on the internet and look up the different types of wood.  Consider the different retailers and the materials they push hardest.  Don’t be dismayed by the prices – yet.  Get educated on the woods and get DoorSmart.
